Contactless security.
Absolute precision.
Gekonova builds palm vein recognition software and hardware for banks, payment networks and high-security environments — touchless ID and payment approval that’s hardest to fake, matched from near-infrared light in a fraction of a second, without anyone touching the device.

One team, four disciplines, a single identity stack.
Hardware, software, deployment and support are engineered together — not stitched from unrelated vendors — so the whole system is accountable end to end.
Hardware
Palm vein terminals and USB scanner modules engineered by our China-based hardware team, built for continuous commercial use.
Software
BioWavePass, our matching engine and SDK/API layer, turns a sensor into a working authentication, payment or attendance system.
Deployment
End-to-end project delivery — scoping, integration, testing and go-live — managed by our UK deployment team.
Client Service
A global support team that stays engaged post-launch, with defined SLAs for critical issues and hardware replacement.
Palm vein recognition, explained simply.
Palm vein recognition identifies a person from the unique pattern of veins beneath the skin of their palm, captured with near-infrared (NIR) light. Because the pattern sits under the skin, it can’t be photographed, lifted or copied the way a fingerprint or face can.
Gekonova’s sensors illuminate the palm, extract the vein structure with proprietary algorithms, and convert it into an encrypted digital template — never a viewable image. That template is what gets compared on every future scan, in under a second, 1:1 against a claimed identity or 1:N across a whole enrolled population.
Explore the technologyBioWavePass: the software that makes it all work.
Sensors only capture pixels. BioWavePass is the matching engine, SDK and API layer that turns a scan into a decision your application can act on — unlock a door, authorise a payment, or clock someone in.
- Native SDKs for Android, plus a Flutter layer and React Native support
- Hardware-agnostic: integrates with existing POS, kiosks, gates and time clocks via USB, RS232, OTG, SDK/API
- Cloud-connected, self-hosted (Docker), or fully offline on-device deployment
- White-label and OEM-ready for partners who want to embed the technology
How palm vein stacks up against fingerprint, face and cards.
Every biometric modality has trade-offs. Palm vein is the only one built entirely from a signal that lives beneath the surface of the skin.
| Capability | Palm Vein | Fingerprint | Facial | PIN / Card |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Requires physical contact | No | Yes | No | Yes |
| Can be lifted or photographed | Extremely difficult | Yes | Yes | Can be shared/stolen |
| Hygienic / touchless | Yes | No | Yes | No |
| Reliable in low light | Yes (own light source) | Yes | Degrades | Yes |
| Typical dual-modality accuracy | ~99.5%+ | ~95–99% | ~90–99% | N/A |
Figures reflect independent testing of dual-modality (vein + surface) matching and industry-reported ranges for comparable systems; real-world results vary by sensor, environment and population size.

Quick answers before you get in touch.
Is it actually more secure than fingerprint or facial recognition?
Yes — vein patterns are internal, so there’s no surface trace to lift or photograph. Combined with liveness detection, that makes palm vein significantly harder to spoof than fingerprint or facial biometrics.
What does the software actually store?
A mathematical feature template derived from your palm — never a viewable photo. It can’t be reverse-engineered back into an image of your hand.
Can it run without internet access?
Yes. Alongside cloud-connected and self-hosted modes, BioWavePass supports fully offline, on-device matching for sites with unreliable connectivity.
How long does integration take?
Typically 2–6 weeks depending on complexity; MVP setups on Gekonova-approved hardware can be ready in as little as 2–3 weeks.
